Inspired by the rich history of Saugerties and devotion to The Dutch Ale House, their favorite Friday night cantina, Dallas and Ted purchased the restaurant in early 2018. The couple renovated the 82-seat restaurant and bar evoking the warmth and hospitality of a traditional Dutch tavern. The space is comprised of two formerly separated areas, the main dining room and the tavern, that the Gilpin’s have carefully worked to establish a cohesive flow between by opening up a nine foot entryway. The cozy tavern side features snug wood booths and woodwork from the 1800’s plus the original mahogany bar, with classic brass trimmings on the foot and bar rails. As a new addition, the bar now extends into the main dining room creating a feeling of continuity and community. The main dining room has been carefully restored, resurfacing old bricks that were hidden behind drywall and originally made in Saugerties, a reference to the town’s history as a brick industry hub. Evoking a feeling of warmth, the dining room has been fitted with a new oak wood floor and features the same pendant lights as the tavern side which were painstakingly sourced by the Gilpins.

The Dutch Ale House is open daily from 11:30am to 11:00pm.  For more information, call (845) 247-2337 or visit www.dutchalehouse.com. Follow The Dutch Ale House on Instagram: @dutch_ale_house and on Facebook @dutchalehouse.
